“We shall go always a little further”

The G.D.Modi College of Arts is situated in Palanpur Banaskantha  District of Gujarat opened with hundred students in June-1964. The Banaskantha District Kelavani Mandal, Palanpur, established the G.D. Modi College of Arts as the first Arts College in the economically and educationally backward Banaskantha District

The goals and objectives of the College are addressed to disseminating knowledge in the Banaskantha District of Gujarat, which is identified as backward area and thereby contribute to the development of the region. “Development through Education” is the motto.

The knowledge imparted by the College relates to the disciplines in Arts. The College offers an undergraduate course (B.A.) with English, Sanskrit, Gujarati and Economics as first electives, History, Political Science, Philosophy and Hindi as first and secondary subsidiaries, Post-graduate course (M.A.) in Sanskrit, Gujarati and English and a certificate course in Sanskrit. The monitoring of students progress after admission is through assessing students’ knowledge and skills by tests, seminars, group discussions etc.

Research activity is claimed to be significant. Research is promoted through PG students’ project work, study leave for teachers and adjustment of teaching schedule. But it is necessary to have a research committee for submitting project proposals to encourage formulation of research projects to draw resources for the College and promote research activities.

The college has a central library with as many as 40000 books relating to Arts subjects. Provisions for sitting arrangement for ladies and staff may be improved. Separate librarian and assistant librarians may be appointed for the smooth functioning of the library.

The College has been following some measures aiming at internal quality checks, through regular meetings and discussions of the academic admission and discipline committees.
